For the final project at University I was allowed to decide what I wanted to create. I feel as a designer I should design with a purpose, this being creating a homeless shelter which could accommodate a range of facilities. Homelessness is a huge area which people often ignore. I decided that I wanted to raise the awareness of homelessness. In Manchester there are a range of homelessness shelters which all offer a variety of things, I wanted to bring all these facilities together, so that they could use all the facilities they needed in one space.

Before I came to the final concept I first began researching about homelessness and the effect it had on people. I then put together a presentation to highlight key issues which I felt were the most important. This was the starting point for my project.

The building I choose to host this type of facility was the Great Northern Warehouse in Manchester. This being the perfect place to accommodate the range of facilities I wanted in one space, also to raise the awareness of homelessness and hopefully begin to solve it.

I created five boards, which showed each area I intended to have in the facility. While I have showed my design in each area I also wanted to give the viewer an insight into what homelessness is and what I wanted to create in this space. With this exhibition I also showed a variety of sketchbooks and a research file which all explored this area.
